The Guru: Harmless comedy in reference to an Indian dance professor (Mistry) who comes to America desiring popularity and fortune in the movie industry. As an alternative, he lands a job in a porno film, is befriended by its gorgeous megastar (who’s truly a “good girl” leading a triple life), then accidentally becomes a star as the “expert of sex.” Some ludicrous gags, a likable leading guy, and excellent joke performances by Graham and Tomei improve this choppy feel-good flick. The Fog: A thick haze from the Pacific hangs over a Northwest seaside village, bringing with it murderous and vengeful ghosts. A lame redo of John Carpenter’s’80 film modifies the structure but does not improve on the first edition. Cast includes Tom Welling, Maggie Grace, Selma Blair, DeRay Davis, Kenneth Welsh, Adrian Hough, Sara Botsford, and Rade Sherbedgia. (100 minutes, 2005)

Commandos: Stereotype-filled war drama with typical structure; Italian commandos, led by a few stalwart Americans, need to secure a vital retreat in the North African desert before Allied landings. Cast includes Lee Van Cleef, Jack Kelly, Giampiero Albertini, Marino Marie, Pierre Paulo Capponi, and Duilio Del Prete. (89 minutes,’64)

Lilo and Stitch: Forlorn Hawaiian gal being brought up by her older sibling finds a doubtful buddy at the dog pound an alien whom she names Sew. In the mean time, people from Stitch?s world have arrived in this to recover the damaging little creature. Gorgeous watercolor surroundings are simply spectacular. Cast includes Voices of Daveigh Pursue, Christopher Michael Sanders, Tia Carrere, Kevin McDonald, Ving Rhames, David Ogden Stiers, Zoe Caldwell, Jason Scott Lee, and Kevin Michael Richardson. Rhapsody in August: Average (by his own estimations) little Kurosawa is a piece in reference to the hurtful memories of a Japanese woman who recollects the bombing of Nagasaki at the end of WW2. Gere, in a hyped up cameo, doesn’t appear too out of place as a Japanese American member of the old lady’s lengthened family. Cast includes Sachiko Murase, Richard Gere, and Narumi Kayashima.
