Christmas is a time for family and friends. It’s a time when we want to be together, all snuggly warm and cozy. And what better way to spend time together than watching a fun movie!

Christmas movies appeal to all ages. Finding the right movie to watch with your entire family might be tricky. That’s why we put together this list of good family-friendly movies that everyone will enjoy. We watch a couple every single year!

A Christmas Story (1983) This hilarious slice-of-life movie set in a 1940s American family Christmas season will have you in stitches every time you watch it. Poor Ralphie has to contend with a whiny little brother, an unshakable bully, a cantankerous father, and a teacher who is not fond of boys who double-dog-dare other boys to stick their tongue on the flag pole. And, any mention of the wish for a BB gun, and everyone, including his understanding mother and even Santa, utters the refrain – “you’ll shoot your eye out!” But, all Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun. What he most certainly did not want for Christmas were Pink Bunny Pajamas!

Elf (2003) What is a six foot elf doing in New York City? Finding his father and getting his name on the “Nice List” instead of the “Naughty List”, of course. Will Ferrell plays Elf, who when he was a baby, stow away by accident in Santa’s gift bag and ended up living at the North Pole being raised by the elves. When Buddy grows up, he realizes he is different from the “other” elves. When told about his father, he decided he would find him and fix him. Well, Buddy finds him alright, and a lot of other people that need fixing. Buddy realizes that not everyone was enjoying Christmas like they should, and certainly not like Buddy! James Caan and Bob Newhart are fabulous, as is Ferrell, which makes this movie not only funny but very well done.

It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) This movie is a Must See Movie. James Stewart and Donna Reed shine in this delightful and timeless story of a family’s love and strength during good times and bad. Sacrificing his youthful dreams to support his family and his small town, George Bailey settles into a life he didn’t intend. When his hopes for a good life are almost shattered by an evil manipulator, he is sent a guardian angel who’s arrived fresh from Heaven to earn his wings. George learns, with the help of a little magic by his angel, that all is not lost when you live a good life with a good family and lots of wonderful friends. And, when all is said and done, that’s what really matters.

The Santa Clause (1994) If your son told you he was at the North Pole last night, would you believe him? If you’re Santa you would! When Scott Calvin, played by Tim Allen, surprised Santa on his rooftop, causing him to fall off, Scott unwillingly agreed to the Santa “clause” which made him the new Santa. The transformation from Dad to Santa took some time and some getting used to. Scott’s son, Charlie, knew it right away when Dad started getting jolly and round, and attracting all kinds of kids telling him what they wanted for Christmas. Then there’s Mom and her psychiatrist husband who don’t know quite how to handle these stories of Charlie’s. Flying off to the North Pole? The ending is sweet and will make you believe in miracles.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) Dr. Seuss is known and loved by folks age 1 to 101, and his classic story of the magic of Christmas is probably one of his best. The Grinch is a fellow you wouldn’t want to cross paths with. M-E-A-N! And now, he has a horrible plan to ruin Christmas for the happy Whos down in Whoville by stealing all their presents and decorations. He hatches his evil plan, puts the wheels in motion, and succeeds in ridding Whoville of Christmas. Or so he thinks. Can the true meaning of Christmas be stolen? If it can’t, will the old Grinch himself have to change?

Make a date with your family this Christmas and enjoy a few of these movie selections. Grab a snack, a blanket, and your loved ones and spend time together having a few laughs at the movies. Enjoy!
