In 2002, my wife got her first cancer diagnosis: Grade 1, Stage 1 endometrial carcinoma, returned from a test to determine whether we could conceive. The doctors told us the primary contributing factor was her size. After 4 bouts across 7 years and a month and a half in hospital in fall 2009, her body failed to support her spirit in her fight, and she passed beyond suffering.
We had reduced our debts until all that was left owing was the mortgage, and had balanced savings and investments with debt reduction such that, when she did pass, it was financially feasible for me to make the break – I was certainly not in any fit emotional shape to go back to work!
I was staying connected and exploring interests via facebook when someone who had befriended me posted about their “free BMW” – I objected, believing nothing comes free, it had been earned somehow. My beliefs were confirmed, and I was introduced to a nutrition support program and business that has done more for me than all of the other business opportunities I’d ever been involved with before combined!
It’s coming on a year since I lost my wife, I’ve been involved with my business for slightly over 3 months, steadily reclaiming my health and fitness while also steadily growing my income by sharing with others.
The research I’ve done backs up the doctors’ claims: diet and obesity add up to the number one controllable contributing factor (higher percentage even than tobacco use!) in cancer diagnoses in the United States: If by sharing these wonderful products and this business, I can spare even *one* other human being the suffering I watched my wife go through, I’ll feel I’ve paid my dues.
That I can combine all of the above with the freedoms to set my own hours, choose my own business partners, and earn as much or as little as my efforts deserve, well… despite the large empty space in my life, I do still have some things I can be grateful for.
A note to anyone sitting on a fence regarding starting your own business: Conventional job security is virtually non-existent: Anyone who trusts all of their income to continue from only one source is far braver than I’ll ever be. Unlike baseball, in business it is *entirely* possible to take second with your foot on first. Conditions will never be totally perfect, yet the longer you wait, the longer it will take until your freedom day. Join us, join me, join someone else or do something completely your own, just please know that it is possible to earn your way free, and there is so much more to life than to grind it away racing with the rats on the wheel that doesn’t seem to get to where you dreamt of going when you got on…
“Control your weight, feel great,
Try the shake that tastes like cake!”
(and learn how to earn by sharing!)
